Le opere fotografiche che Raffaella Losapio espone nel corso dell’evento multimediale intitolato “Dal Cielo ci Guardano”- “From above in space somebody looks at us” confermano il suo percorso decennale riguardante la rappresentazione artistica di affascinanti tematiche astronautiche e cosmico-spaziali.
Lo spazio è fonte di ispirazione e di un’innovativa continua elaborazione, pensato non come luogo della fantasia, sede di mondi nuovi e sconosciuti, ma come luogo reale in uno scenario inusuale in cui si muovono presenze umane: gli eroici Space Explorers.
R. Losapio ha raffigurato le prime passeggiate spaziali, gli esperimenti sul suolo lunare, le svariate attività extraveicolari, la fine comandata della permanenza in orbita della MIR, le varie fasi di volo e di rientro delle navicelle Soyuz, Shuttle, il problema dei rottami spaziali, le esplorazioni su Marte, l’assemblaggio della Stazione Spaziale Internazionale. I suoi dipinti hanno illustrato i manifesti di importanti conferenze organizzate nel contesto degli Incontri “Astronauti nel 2000”, dell’ASE Congress, sotto l’Alto patronato del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana.
Dopo aver condiviso interessanti esperienze come protagonista in “ART & SPACE” con Franco Malerba (1° astronauta italiano), Jerry Linenger (astronauta americano della NASA), e i cosmonauti Russi: Valery Tokarev, Vasily Tsibliev, Alexandr Viktorenko, nel corso di congressi ed incontri culturali incontri-con-astrocosmonauti, recentemente Raffaella Losapio ha incontrato a Milano l’astronauta italiano Paolo Nespoli per confrontare alcune sue interpretazioni con le spettacolari immagini scattate dalla spazio, postate su Twitter, dallo stesso Ingegnere Paolo Nespoli durante la missione MagISStra, terminata in maggio 2011 losapio/2011/10/11/nespoli.

THE YURI GAGARIN CONTRABAND is one mans’ journey into space. It is a multi-media inspired piece as a live project. It’s the brainchild of Benjamin Shilling, who effectively puts himself in the mind of an astronaut travelling into space. His aim is to share with us his hopes, dreams, nightmares and fears (of which there are many) via an audio-visual medium. In previous incarnations Benjamin has focused on the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and his solo voyage of 1961, 50 years ago, when he was the first cosmonaut to circumnavigate the globe.
Ben has always managed to mirror his own personal experiences within the project as he himself circumnavigated the globe 10 years ago, albeit via aeroplane. This is still the case, but it will however be the first time that he collaborates with another multimedia artist, Raffaella Losapio, who has helped to create a new context for the project by adding her visual works as well as ideas and experience to the forthcoming event entitled “From above in space somebody looks at us” curated by Vittoria Biasi.
A projected screen and sound effects will show different images via a video edited by Benjamin of the International Space Station (ISS) as well as images from the Voyager Golden Records, phonograph records included aboard both Voyager spacecraft, which were launched in 1977 (the year that Ben himself was born). Benjamin sings rhythmic poems about being in space as well as the plight of humanity and the future possibility of constructing a home away from earth should the need arise.
The Yuri Gagarin Contraband è il viaggio di un uomo nello spazio. Si tratta di uno spettacolo ispirato da un’idea multimediale diventato uno spettacolo dal vivo. E’ creato dalla mente di Benjamin Shilling, che si è messo nei panni di un’astronauta in viaggio nello spazio. La sua intenzione e’ di condividere le sue speranze, sogni e incubi attraverso una visione multimediale. Le prime versioni del progetto di Benjamin erano concentrate soprattutto sul cosmonauta Yuri Gagarin e la sua missione del 1961, cinquanta anni fa, come primo uomo a circumnavigare la terra.
Benjamin ha sempre cercato di riflettere le sue esperienze personali in questo progetto poiche’ anche lui ha circumnavigato la terra dieci anni fa, ma in aereoplano, e ancora oggi queste esperienze continuano ad arricchire il progetto. Per la prima volta c’è una collaborazione con un’artista “multimediale” italiana, Raffaella Losapio, che lo ha aiutato a creare un nuovo tipo di percorso grazie ai suoi lavori, alle sue idee e alle sue esperienze. L’evento sarà intitolato “Dal Cielo ci Guardano” a cura di Vittoria Biasi.
La proiezione e gli effetti sonori mostreranno diverse immagini del video montato da Benjamin Shilling. Questo è composto da immagini tratte dalla International Space Station (ISS) e dal Voyager Golden Records, il quale conteneva dei dischi con informazioni sull’umanità inviati appositamente nello spazio, lanciato nel 1977 (l’anno in cui Benjamin è nato). Benjamin canta poesie ritmiche sull’essere stato nello spazio e sulla condizione dell’umanità e la possibilità in futuro di costruire una casa lontano dalla terra se dovesse essere necessario.

“Highly recommended by the boy Wolff (and you know how hard it is for anyone to impress our terrifying ninja doorman) The Yuri Gagarin Contraband truly is a fascinating and unique little project. It’s the brainchild of Ben Shilling, who effectively puts himself in the mind of the first man to go into space and shares with us his hopes, dreams, nightmares and fears (of which there are many) via an audio-visual medium. A projected screen and sound effects show different images of the great Russian cosmonaut, taking great pains to highlight his emotional vulnerability, with shots of him looking proud and heroic with the Russian space team, interspersed with those where he looks pensive, anguished or just plain terrified. Supported percussively by a fellow in an orange boilersuit (looking like an extra from an old Tango advert) and a double-bassist who never ventures from the shadows, Shilling sits on his stool, as alone as his hero, strumming a battered acoustic, narrating rhythmic poems about being a real space cadet rather than the metaphorical variety, the hellish training, fear of what he’s about to do, leaving behind loved ones and the unknown future, which when you put yourself in the position of a man who doesn’t know if he’s going to die or not, is a pretty heavy deal. Like the first man to test a bullet proof vest or parachute, it takes balls, and the YGC want people to appreciate that, so Shilling’s eccentric urbanite lo-fi folk is centred wholly on Gagarin’s pre-orbital jitters, philosophical musings and whimsical flights of fancy, which compliments his Barrett-ish vocal style perfectly. And we haven’t even touched upon the lyrics yet. Sometimes inane, but always playful, they suggest that Shilling has spent a great deal of entirely necessary time as high as a satellite. Keeping a straight face while singing such pithy gems as “lost control of my nervous system, found some knobs and I’ve got to twist ‘em…” (“Space Cadet”) and “the real destroyer, is paranoia…” (“Super Punk”) can’t be easy. The guy’s not quite on another planet, but if he told you that he’d been to one, you’d believe it. Or believe that he believes it, at least. Thought-provoking, arty, wonderfully odd and curiously cool, the YGC are wittily and boldly original, even if their low-budget antics are a little clumsily executed. As a piece of rock theatre it’s still very much a work in progress, but they’re engaging and riveting to the point where you almost want to flip ‘em some spare change, so make every effort to check ‘em out because it’ll be well worth the bother.” Paul Mills (http://blamonline.wordpress.com/)
